The Africa Sustainable Energy Centre (ASEC), in partnership with Kathryn Strachan Consulting, is hosting the AI for Africa Workshop, which examines how artificial intelligence can accelerate sustainable development across the continent.

The free event, which is scheduled for Wednesday, 10th September 2025, focuses on the theme: ‘Innovation, Inclusion and Impact’.

Speakers at the event include the Director of Research and Innovation at ASEC, Dr Elvis Twumasi, CEO, Kathryn Strachan Consulting, Kathryn Strachan and Data Analyst at KPMG, Daniel Iyiola. The workshop will be moderated by Olamide Efosa-Austin, Director for Tech4GoodAfrica, Future Energy Leader, World Energy Council

The AI for Africa Workshop will, among other things, explore cases across Africa where AI is driving change, adopting AI responsibly through policy and governance, the continent’s risk of exclusion in the global AI development and what’s needed for African voices to shape the agenda.

The workshop will also examine the investment landscape, its possibilities and what it will take to build inclusive, scalable AI ecosystems across the continent. Participants also get the opportunity to learn, upskill and prepare for the next generation of African AI leaders.

AI for Africa Workshop Speakers

Dr. Elvis Twumasi

Dr. Elvis Twumasi is the Director of Research and Innovations at the Africa Sustainable Energy Centre. He is also a lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.

As a research scholar at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA, Dr. Elvis has worked on several AI and Machine Learning projects. He is on the board and a trainer in AI at the Young African Scientist, which is an international platform in training Africans in the application of AI for the industrialisation of Africa. Dr. Elvis is a member of the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab at KNUST.

He is passionate about an inclusive AI and the quest to train many in the application of AI in their respective fields.

Kathryn Strachan

Kathryn Strachan is an international growth strategist and author of the best-selling book Scaling Success: Building Brands that Break Barriers. With extensive experience advising fintech, SaaS, and purpose-driven organisations across the UK, US, and beyond, Kathryn specialises in helping businesses define their go-to-market strategies, build powerful brands, and drive sustainable growth.

Her connection to Africa began during her studies at the University of Legon in Accra, where she developed a deep appreciation for the region’s entrepreneurial energy and emerging tech landscape.

Kathryn has delivered keynotes and workshops worldwide on topics ranging from AI adoption in business to scaling brands for impact, sharing practical, real-world strategies with audiences across industries and geographies.

Daniel Iyiola

Daniel Iyiola is a Senior Data Engineer at KPMG with over five years of experience delivering data and AI solutions across financial services, telecommunications, oil & gas, and consulting. He specialises in building scalable data platforms, implementing governance frameworks, and driving analytics adoption for leading organisations across Africa.

As a passionate community builder, Daniel has contributed to initiatives such as DataFestAfrica, TechUp Africa, and EduBridge Academy, mentoring and supporting the next generation of data leaders. He is also a member of global networks including ForbesBLK, Perplexity AI Fellows, Data Science Nigeria, and the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council. Recognised with multiple awards, including the Community Impact Award by Young Data Professionals (2024).

Daniel is committed to ensuring data and AI drive inclusion and meaningful impact across the continent. Outside of work, he plays the saxophone professionally in his spare time.
